92 vols, 12mo, cont. gilt leather (rubbed), gilt spines on 5 raised bands (some heads and tails def., front bottom corner v. 62 def.), gilt labels, marbl. endpapers, sp. edges. Good set (occ. minor spotting). Monumental ed. of Voltaire’s complete works, also issued in 70 octavo vols. It was edited by Condorcet (whose biography of Voltaire opens the final vol. 92), financed by Beaumarchais, and printed by Decroix from type bought from Baskerville. It was the 1st to include Voltaire’s voluminous correspondence, and formed the basis of all subsequent editions. Engr. ills : portraits of Voltaire facing the titles of vols 1, 16 and 40, map in vol. 27 (facing p. 262), 14 pls with 54 ills at the end of vol. 39.
