In-8° : [1]-cxlviii-[7] lvs (some lvs lightly browned, stamp of a religious congregation on the title-page, marginal tears with lacks, one larger without loss of text in lf. xcviii, two lower corners lacking, small stains and marginal waterstains). 19th century binding : grey paper, flat spine, yellow edges (lacks of leather at the joints, spine and turn ins, some very small stains, lower edges and corners strongly dulled). RARE POST-INCUNABULUM of this "small sum" of popes decrees and decretales on various subjects : eucharisty, altar breads, obligation for priests to help poor people, clerical celibacy, abortions, homicides, women contaminated with leprosy, simony, curses, bigamy, etc. The Spanish Dominican friar Raimondo de Peñafort (c. 1175-1275) compiled the Decretales of Gregory IX, collection that remained a major part of Church law until the 20th century. He is the patron of the (canon) lawyers. Text decorated with some large black initials. The first edition was published in 1504 in Strasbourg.
