Contemporary binding : bradel half brown cloth, marbled paper boards, flat spine with black leather label (sides of the leather label rubbed, edges -partly- and corners dulled). FIRST FOUR ISSUES (of 7), of William Henri Bradley's self-published magazine with contributions of Julia Whiting, August F. Jacacci, Henri Rivière, etc. Illustrated with reproductions of drawings, posters, book illustrations by a.o. Edward Penfield, Toulouse-Lautrec, Aubrey Beardsley, Alfons Mucha and William Morris and with several original designs by Bradley including the illustrations for his extravaganza "The Beauty and the Beast", his best work in curvilinear Art Nouveau style (issue n° 4). Complete of the covers with colour designs of Bradley on the upper ones. The magazine established by the American Art Nouveau illustrator and artist Bradley (1868-1962), the "Dean of American Designers", his first entirely independant venture of this kind, had a great succes. The 10.000 issues of the first number were sold out before the day of publication as did many subsequent issues. The popularity and demands became too important for Bradley so, in August 1896, the review weathered a temporary setback caused by a problematic contributor and a few months later, Bradley suffered a physical and nervous collapse. Because no one was trained to carry on the press, he had to cease publication in January 1897, after 8 numbers published.
