Description
of the framing board invading the plate, some minor sm. foxing on the right edge, neat tear in upper left corner, a few foxing stains on verso. Framed under glass. Cfr. ill. etching composed by a poem “grand air”, written in a nice calligraphy, signed and dated (3 june 1936) in the plate by Paul Eluard, a hymn to a young nymph. The 4th of June 1936, Picasso adds the design surrounding the poem showing a female minotaur holding a refracting mirror in her right hand, blinding the sun on the opposite side, below a surrealist figure of a woman stretched out on a bed. This etching was later used as illustration on p. 71 of the book by Paul Eluard “Les Yeux Fertiles”, Paris, Guy Levis Mano, 1936. Ref. Bloch 289.
