(cameline?). [Brussels], 1733-1756, French & Dutch manuscript on paper, c. 31,5 x 20 cm, 14 ff. with text + 23 blank ff. (with remains of documents once pasted on them), written in black ink, cont. vellum (sl. loosening, soiled), flat spine (some staining). In good condition. account book of a trader in camlet, a woven fabric of goat’s hair and silk, wool or cotton. this luxury product was very popular in the 18th c. “england, France, Holland and Flanders were the chief places of its manufacture. Brussels exceeded them all in the beauty and quality of its camlets” (Wikipedia). archival research should reveal the name of the Brussels trader. the document speaks of “mon frere” (Beydaels), “mon cousin” (triponetty), “mon oncle” (syrejacobs), “mon beaufrere” (tKint). Some clients’ names: Lijftocht, Scharlier, “le comte Maximilien de Daun”, “le prince sulkowski”.
