Description
pcs. of various sizes, pasted on 25 boards, 47,5 x 33 cm joined 2 by 2 (edges sl. soiled & frayed), kept in a map covered with black fabric (sl. dam.). On frontcover the inventory nrs. of the present coll. (3797-4694). Good condition, samples well preserved. interesting collection of machine made elastic material used for suspenders, braces and sleeve garters for men. Elastic suspenders are not used until about the late 1880’s. Residing at the intersection of function and fashion, suspenders were once an integral part to getting (and staying) dressed. the elastic portion of the suspenders allowed some “give” when bending over. in this collection each sample shows a different design presented in a large and narrow size and in various colours. Most peculiar collection.
