of historic or artistic book-binding, illustrating the history of binding as a branch of the decorative arts. London, Bernard Quaritch, 1889, 4to, goldtooled black morocco, covers with gilt ruled border and central ornaments, gilt orn. spine on 5 raised bands, gilt inside dentelles, a.e.g., slipcase. Fine copy. Rare orig. ed. nicely illustrated with 103 colored lith. by Griggs. Among the examples are bindings in the gothic style, bindings stamped with blind tooling, cameos, designs executed for J. grolier and H. deux, French, english and scotch bindings of the 16th, 17th and 18th c., examples of venetian gilt leather, english silver embroidery, etc. Bookpl. alex.
