d’après les cartes originales de d’Anville. Paris, Ledoux et Tenré, 1818, folio, boards (rubbed, bumped corners, splitt. joints), flat spine (part. missing), [2] ff., 27 pl. (some very light foxing, sm. chip of paper missing on t.-p., some marg. soiling on 1st ff.). Good copy. Part of the “Oeuvres de rollin”, with 27 double-page engr. maps after Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d’Anville (1697-1782). He was both a geographer and cartographer who greatly improved the standards of map-making. His maps of ancient geography, characterized by careful, accurate work and based largely on original research, are especially valuable. He left unknown areas of continents blank and noted doubtful information as such. ambroise tardieu adapted some maps and wrote a note concerning the great value of it on the 1st p. under the table of contents.
