Description
Matthiolus, médecin senois, sur les six livres de Pedacius Dioscoride Anazarbéen, de la matière médicinale [trsl. from the Latin] Antoine du Pinet. Lyon, Pierre Rigaud, 1605, folio, cont. calf (sl. rubbed), gilt orn. spine on 6 raised bands, [140]-606-[33] pp. (heav. spotting and staining, upper part of title and a2 repaired, lower corner of p. 600 torn off, sm. hole in pl. 41, pp. 44 last part and pl. 13 (N.T.). Lyon reprint of the French trsl. of the botanical work of P.A. Matthioli (1500-1577). It deals with the medical use of plants and animals, and has a final chapter on distillation. illustrated with woodcuts: title within ornamental border, full-page portrait, headpiece, author’s portrait at end and numerous botanical ills in text.
