Description
some lvs slightly browned, wormholes in the text in the 2d half, some lvs washed (?)). Modern imitation binding : sheepskin with brass clasps, boards decorated with blind fillets, roll-stamps (one large with Gothic ornaments) and angular fleurons, blind decorated ribbed spine, red edges (spine, joints and edges rubbed, upper turn in repaired, slightly trimmed, modern handwritten note on the upper flyleaf). Incunabulum in neat typography and in fresh inside condition. Contains the major works of Tacitus (56-117) given by Franceso del Pozzo : the last six books of the "Annals" and the five first books of the "Histories" under the title "Historiae Augustae", the "Germania" ("[...] Illustrissimi historici de situ moribus et populis Germaniae libellus aureus"), the "Dialogus" ("[...] Dialogus an sui saeculi oratores antiquioribus et quare con cedant"), and the "Agricola" ("Iulii Agricola vita [...]"). Copy with several contemporary handwritten notes (some slightly erased). Edition already published in c. 1475 in Milan, reproducing the same dedication of Pozzo to Giacomo Antiquario. Pozzo lectured poetry and rhetoric in the University of Bologna and was involved in setting up the first printing establishements at Bologna and Parma. He also tutored the son of the prince of Bologna Giovanni Bentivoglio II (1443- 1508).
