fort aimable, et très capable lui même de devenir acquéreur de votre tableau.... Le Prince GORTSCHAKOFF avait en effet une Galerie composée d'une quarantaine de tableaux seulement... J'en ai fait parlé au Prince BARIATINSKY que j'irai voir celui là, et au Comte STROGONOFF, ce sont des amateurs, des vrais. J'irai même au Ministre Comte ADLERBERG 1er vieillard, on ne peut plus aimable, si je sais qu'il y a possibilité d'en parler à l'Empereur... Si vous êtes décidé à tenter la vente de votre tableau en Russie... il faudra me l'envoyer par l'ambassade française. C'est le meilleur moyen, bien emballé, on n'ouvrira ni aux douanes allemandes, ni aux douanes russes et le tableau ne risquera rien...”

Prince GORTSCHAKOFF had indeed a Gallery composed of only about forty paintings... I told Prince BARIATINSKY that I would go and see this one, and Count STROGONOFF, they are amateurs, real ones. I will even go to the Minister Count ADLERBERG 1st old man, one could not be more kind, if I know that there is a possibility to speak about it to the Emperor... If you are decided to try to sell your painting in Russia... it will have to be sent to me by the French embassy. It's the best way, well packed, it won't be opened at either German or Russian customs, and the painting will be safe..."
