MONET CLAUDE (1840-1926). — L.A.S. «ton vieux qui t'aime Claude», Londres 12 février 1901, à SA FEMME ALICE ; 4 pages in-8 à en-tête du Savoy Hotel. — Sur son travail à Londres, et sur une de ses toiles du Bassin aux nymphéas.

«Bonne très bonne journée aujourd'hui, temps superbe j'ai travaillé ferme et mieux je crois, aussi suis-je moins las que lorsque ça marche mal. Le temps y était du reste pour beaucoup et il me faudrait quelques journées de suite avec ce même temps. Mais est-ce possible ici»... Il est content de la savoir mieux... «
Je vois que je me suis mal expliqué au sujet de la toile pour Durand [DURAND-RUEL], et je voudrais bien s'il la demande qu'il n'y ait pas d'er­reur. C'est une toile du bassin, Le pont avec iris d'eau au premier plant, elle a figuré à l'exposition chez Durand et est signée, comme cela il n'y a pas à se tromper, et si elle ne se trouve pas en évidence dans l'atelier, elle est facile à trouver dans une des caisses».
Puis il évoque «l'immense réclame de la vente Feydeau, c'est vraiment par trop laisser voir le but, et je voudrais que ce soit un four noir. Du reste il y a déjà eu des ventes qui d'après le Figaro n'ont guère marché»...

"Your old man who loves you Claude", London 12 February 1901, to HIS WIFE ALICE ; 4 pages in-8 on the letterhead of the Savoy Hotel. — On his work in London, and on one of his paintings of the Bassin aux nymphéas. "Good, very good day today, superb weather, I worked hard and better I think, so I am less tired than when things go wrong. The weather was a big part of it and I would need a few days in a row with this same weather. But is it possible here"... He is happy to know it better... " — I see that I did not explain myself well about the painting for Durand [DURAND-RUEL], and I would like to make sure that there is no mistake if he asks for it. It is a painting of the basin, The bridge with water iris in the first plant, it appeared at the Durand exhibition and is signed, so there is no room for error, and if it is not in evidence in the studio, it is easy to find in one of the boxes". — Then he evokes "the immense advertisement of the Feydeau sale, it is really too much to show the purpose, and I would like it to be a black oven. Besides, there have already been sales which, according to the Figaro, were hardly successful"...
