Description
morocco, marbled paper boards, gilt decorated flat spine (small marks of use).
First separate edition, extracted from the 2nd volume of "Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan, in 1852, '53 and '54 by Commodore M. C. Perry" (Washington, Beverly Tucker, 1856, 4 vol.). Historian and rare book collector, Brevoort (New York 1818-1887) assisted in the compilation of Perry's expedition to Japan. Illustrated with 10 beautifully coloured engraved plates of Japanese fishes (numbered 3-12 as in all copies traced in auction references and in online libraries).
