Description
[Paris], typis regiis, cura ac diligentia Caroli Stephani, 1551. In-f° : 393-[2] pp. (foxing, light marginal dampstains, some on all the length, small hole in the margin of p. 169 otherwise copy in fresh inside condition). 19th Century English binding : calf, ribbed spine with blind and gilt roll-stamps and gilt fillets, brown sprinkled edges (spine renewed, edges and corners dulled, flyleaves renewed).
First edition entirely in Greek of this work on the conquest and civil wars of the late Roman Republic by Appian (c. 95-160). First classical work printed by Charles Estienne using the Garamond's Grecs du Roi displayed in a very neat typography with ornemental head-pieces and initial letters by Geoffroy Tory (?); printer's mark on the title-page.
