ca ripiegata fuori testo. Fregio al frontespizio e numerose decorazioni nel testo anche apiena pagina in xilogra a. Bell’esemplare, ad ampi margini. Legatura coeva in pelle con decorazione in oro impressa al piatto anteriore, titolo in oro impresso al dorso, letti dorati alle unghiature e taglio testa dorato. Entro custodia in tela blu. Esemplare numero 19 su una tiratura a 35 copie numerate, uno dei 50 con legatura speciale. Ex-libris al contropiatto anteriore: Victor D. Alberts. Prima edizione in inglese. Sparrman si unì a James Cook nel suo secondo viaggio con la Resolution come assistente di Johann e Georg Forster (vedi lotto 483) «supplementing by his botanical knowledge the zoological knowledge of the Forsters [...], afather and son who where naturalist on the voyage» (B 198). Come si legge all’inizio del secondo capitolo, apagina 22: «At four o’clock in the afternoon of the 22nd of November the anchor was weighed for avoyage which was not only perhaps the most hazardous and fraught with dangers, but undoubtedly the most fortunate that history can even relate», un viaggio che ampliò enormemente icon ni della Terra allora conosciuta. Sparrman fu, fra le altre cose, uno dei primi acontemplare quel maestoso spettacolo della Natura che sono gli iceberg nel dicembre del 1722, subito dopo la partenza alla volta dell’Antartico.
