volte ripiegate. Frontespizio allegorico inciso in rame. La nostra copia ha, in luogo delle 20 carte con la Epistola e l’Indice che appartengono all’edizione, 4 carte di Praefatio di altra edizione. Minimi difetti: oriture sparse apoche carte, gora d’acqua nel margine interno di alcuni fascicoli e occasionali trascurabili macchie. Legatura coeva in piena pelle con titoli dorati entro tassello al dorso, ricostruito. Terza edizione, esemplata sulla seconda del 1664; cfr. W 1463. Il nostro esemplare è scompleto delle prime 20 carte e con 4 carte provenienti da altra edizione. «The best known of Varenius’ works. The Geographia generalis established aframework for physical geography capable of including new facts of discovery as they arose. The work became the standard geographic text for more than acentury. Varenius believed that there were three ways by which the truth of geographical propositions could be established, rst by geometrical, arithmetical, and trigonometrical means; second by astronomical precepts and theorems; and third by experience» (Dsb Xiii, 583).
