In-8°; front. and 5 pl. (title-page browned, foxing, numerous on some pp. or pl.).
Contemporary binding : threequarter calf, marbled paper boards with gilt roll-stamp, gilt decorated ribbed spine, brown sprinkled edges (repairs : joints, spine with original leather preserved, turn ins and corners, boards rubbed, edges dulled).

FIRST EDITION illustrated with a nice hand-coloured frontispiece representing probably the Infernal judgement of Serapis and with 5 plates. The English physician and ethnologist Prichard (1786-1848) named for the first time senile dementia and made a valuable contributions to anthropology and especially evolution with his "Physical history of mankind and natural history of Man". Apart from his researches, he also studied Egyptian history, chronology and religion.
