In-4° : 380-[3] pp.; 23 (on 24) pl. (strong foxing, some large dampstains and mould spots in the last half).
Contemporary binding : half blond calf, marbled paper boards, gilt stamped flat spine, covers preserved (corners dulled, spine slightly rubbed, small tears in the upper cover and important loss of paper in the lower one).

"Second edition" (cfr mention on the upper cover but most probably first edition) of this history of bullfighting by the historian Goméz de Bedoya (1802-1860) introduced by a treatise on the origin and evolution of this tradition. This standard work contains a serie of biographies of the leading bullfighters such as the legendary José Delgado "Pepe Hillo" or Francisco Arjona "Cúchares" and descriptions of the arenas of the country. Illustrated with 23 lithographies after Miranda, mostly on partly tinted paper, and with numerous head- and tail-pieces. It ends with a poem on bulls by the Romantic poet Alfonso Garcia Tejero (1818-1890).
