4 copper engravings, 65 x 104 cm each, assembled and mounted on dark green paper with a total size of approximately 104 x 254 cm (browned, edges show traces of use and some tears).

Original sea chart of the Channel with western orientation, published during the life of James Frederick Imray (1829-1891) who worked first as a partner with his father James Imray (1803-1870) and, after his death, took over the management of the business. On top of the map is the English East Coast from Dungeness, headland on the coast of Kent, to Sunderland and the mouth of the river Tyne. On the left, on the continental side, the coast runs from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Philippine. With inset maps of Harwich, Bridlington Bay, Sunderland, Whitby, Scarborough and Hartlepool, the rivers Thames, Humber and Tyne, as well as the road between Yarmouth and Lowestoft. To facilitate the use by sailors we find remarks on the currents, guiding information on harbours and docks and landmarks such as lighthouses, churches, castles are included.
