In-f° : [40]-1630 [i.e. 1634]-[44 (sur 48)] pp. (incomplete of the engr. title, the portrait and of 2 lvs at the end of which 1 bl., copy soiled, marginal dampstains, foxing, marginal tears with lacks and some larger without lacks, stains, small mould in some margins, pp. 1581-1585 inverted and bound between pp. 1578 and 1579, pp. at end damaged).
Contemporary binding : calf, ribbed spine with gilt fillets, red edges (used, spine and joints renewed, lower edge of upper board repaired, scratches, lacks, corners lacking, flyleaves renewed).

Famous work of the English botanist and herbalist Gerarde (c. 1545-1612) illustrated with c. 1.800 woodcuts in the text (1st ed. : 1597). The author widely translated Dodoen's "Cruydt-boek" but added some plants from his own garden at Holborn and from North America. He is the first or one of the first to mention potatoes. Most extensively circulated botany book in English during the 17th Century.
