Modern binding : natural pigskin blind stamped with Renaissance-like pattern, beveled boards with a central frame full of fleurons encircled with fillets and with angular fleurons, blind decorated ribbed spine with fillets going on the plates and finishing with fleurons, green edges.
(1). GREGORIUS I.- [Homiliae XL super Evangelia]. (Venetiis, p[er] Peregrinum de Pasqualibus, xiiii. Marcii. 1493. [110] lvs (lower corner of "aa" repaired, some marginal stains, non contemporary rubrication of mediocre quality). Collection of 40 homelies on the Gospels pronounced by the pope Gregory (c. 540-604). He was elected pope in 590, is Doctor of the Church, one of the Latin Fathers and a saint in the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Anglican Communion and some Lutheran churches. Text on two columns. [72] lvs (some running titles erased, very rare stains, same rubrication). Translation from the Syriac by the Italian theologian Ambrosius (1386-1439) of the sermons of the deacon Ephrem the Syrian (c. 306-373). Deals with the resurrection, monastic life, monks' armour, fear of God, etc. Reprinted from the edition of Miscomini (Firenze, 1481).
