Bound by Mansell : green morocco, boards gilt titled encircled with fillets and a large floral frame and with a blind stamped fleuron in the center, gilt decorated ribbed spine, floral roll-stamps on the turn-ins, gilt edges (some parts rubbed, corners dulled).

FIRST EDITION and nice work giving a good testimony of the industrialisation period in London gathering the text of the journalist Jerrold and the engravings of Doré. The 180 illustrations, of which 1 frontispiece and 53 plates protected by captionned tissues guards, are more focused on the people and the poor (street workers, lavander and flower sellers, dockers, a Sandwich man, etc.) but also figure the city crowded, the first underground with workers rushing to get on, the aristocraty at the Opera, etc.
