In-f° : engr. title-[12]-540-[14] pp.; 32 pl. (foxing, text lvs and a few pl. slightly browned, stains, marginal dampstains, large at one pl., some margins of pl. reinforced and one marginal hole repaired).
Contemporary binding : veined calf, ribbed spine with gilt fillets (small lack on upper board, rare scratches, spine and boards slightly rubbed, upper corners lightly dulled, 19th Cent. flyleaves, trimmed).

Translation by Basilio Varén de Soto of this famous and interesting testimony on the war of Flanders by the cardinal Bentivoglio (1577-1644) based on historical sources and his own experience as a diplomat. He was indeed sent as an Apostolic nounce to Flanders in 1607, then to France in 1617 where he incured favours from Louis XIII. Illustrated with 1 engraved title, 28 portraits and 4 folding maps figuring battles and the profanation of Antwerp's cathedral. First published in Cologne in 1632-1639.
