Description
Coloniae Agrippinae, sumptibus viduae et haeredum Joannis Stelsii (apud Joannem Birckmannum), 1573. 2 vol. in-f° (text n.c., some lvs slightly browned, foxing, light marginal dampstains, some stronger in the text at vol. II). Contemporary binding : calf, decorated boards with blind fillets, central fleuron and roll-stamps (characters and fleurons), ribbed spine (spine of vol. I renewed, corners of vol. I repaired, some scratches, slightly rubbed, handwriten provenance and note on the flyleaves). Third edition of the translation (1st ed. in Greek : 1551; 1st ed. in Latin : 1567) composed of commentaries on the Bible, continuation of Eusebius' Church history, biography of 30 ascetics and works on heresies and Providence. Theodoret (c. 393-460) was a theologian, bishop of Cyrrhus and one of the most important ecclesiastical historians of Late Antiquity. Ornemental initial letters, printer's mark of Stelsius on title-page and printer's mark of Birckmann on the back of last page.
