Prosper (France, c. 390-c. 455) was the first continuator of Jerome's Universal Chronicle and even if he was a layman he threw himself with ardour into the religion controversies defending Augustine's doctrine. As he was a disciple of the Church Father, the majority of his works relay his thoughts. Contains his famous reply to Cassian and letters to saint Augustine on the necessity of Grace (God wishes all men to be saved), maxims and epigrams to guide the Christians, etc.
