Description
French manuscript, 4to, 24 x 18 cm, cont. gilt sheep (rubbed, large hole in front cover), covers with gilt ruled border, richly gilt spine on 5 raised bands, red edges, marbled endpapers, [317] ff., expertly written in brown ink (paper age-toned, wormtrack in blank bottom margin of final quires). Good condition. Extensive university course (?) on astronomy (30 ff.) and geography (286 ff.) giving a survey of ancient topography, but esp. of the present situation in France, Europe, Asia, Africa and America, with some historical remarks (e.g. the description of Haarlem has the famous inscription on Laurens Coster and the invention of printing). Ill. with 2 folding drawings of the solar systems of Ptolemy and Copernicus in the 1st part.
