folio, mod. vellum (19th c. ?), front cover with gilt ornamental border and corner pcs, lower cover blindruled, gilt spine with red and black leather title labels, marbl. endpapers, [18] ff.-930 cols-[32] ff. (lacking 1 text f. Xx1 = col. 689-692; some dampstaining and marg. soiling, pl. 141 loose, some edges frayed or with sm. tears, some repairs, sellotape repair to pl. 25 & 26, tears in pl. 43 & 206, left top corner of pl. 158 torn off). Acceptable copy. Superbly illustrated Dutch flora by A. Munting (1626-1683), botanist and professor at the University of Groningen. He enlarged the botanical garden of his father H. Munting, one of the most extensive gardens of that period. Engr. ills : title by J. Goeree (1670-1731), title-vign., 6 head- and 5 tail pcs and 234 (of 243) numb. full-page plates, 121 of which in handcol. (lacking pls 10, 27, 50, 85, 159, 160, 185, 208 and 227, some pls bound in wrong order). These pls by I. Gole or J. Mulder depict different plants in landscapes or architectural settings, some with sm. animals. Title in red & black, text in 2 cols. Some vernacular plant names added in old handwriting. Old ownership entries on title; 19th c. commemorative inscription on half-title "Dezen boek gewonnen door de dood van Jacobus Vaen (?) priester in Burght bij Antwerpen (...) 1835 (...)".  In centre of front cover initials "L N" in red and black.
