Description
In-f° : [215] lvs (pp. edges used, dampstains, brown spots). Contemporary emblazoned binding : buckskin leather, decorated boards with blind roll-stamps and fleurons, coat of arms in the middle, blind decorated ribbed spine, red sprinkled edges (upper board detached, lacks of leather esp. at 1 corner, turn ins lacking, split back).
HANDWRITTEN EXERCISE BOOK ON MATHEMATICS, GEOMETRY, TRIGONOMETRY, ASTRONOMY, NAUTICS, COMPUTUS AND GUNNERY, maybe suited for the education of a YOUNG PRINCE OF THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY. Neatly written in ink with auxiliary lines in lead pencil. Decorated throughout with initials, titles in different font type, red underlining, text in red frame and fine diagrams. Manual consisting of small problem solving chapters. Date based on the exercises to find leap year, golden number, Easter Sunday, etc. This manuscript can be defined as a "ciphering book", a term used for every 18th century exercise book including the writing of numerals, whether concerned with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, navigation or surveying.
