The author was among the first in France to understand the importance of infinitesimal analysis. Varignon left many writings sull'Analyse des petits infinement De l'Hopital, with the intention to facilitate the introduction and promotion of this text among the young mathematicians of the time. These writings were collected by his students in this work published for the first time after the author's death.
