Description
In-8° : [8]-214-[1] lvs (stamps on the title-page, small marginal wormholes in the 1st half of the vol.).
Contemporary binding : calf, boards encircled with blind fillets and decorated with gilt fleurons, gilt decorated ribbed spine, red sprinkled edges (spine, joints and boards partly reinforced, upper joint partly split, small lack of leather at the spine, some small wears, corners very dulled).

RARE SECOND POSTHUMOUS EDITION OF THE TRANSLATION by Sigismundus Gelenius of the religious and philosophical works by the early Christian apologist, saint Justin (100 ?-165 ?). He is regarded as the foremost interpreter of the theory of the Logos and was martyred, along with some of his students, because he refused the cult of images. Gelenius already published an edition in 1555 at Basel. Printer's mark on the title-page, ornemental head- and tail-pieces and initials.
