Description
Paris, [Nicolas] Ponce et [François] Godefroy, [ 1784]. In-4° oblong : 16 cupper engravings (plates 17,5 x 20 cm), large margins (water stain in the upper margin, small spots and folds). Sewed, original paper wrappers (used, tears). FIRST EDITION with decorative title, 2 maps by Dupuis and 13 scenes on the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), all drawn from a french perspective. Included are the Battle of Lexington (1775), the Battles of Saratoga (1777) after which France entered formally the war, the french attack on the island of Dominica (1778), the surrender of Senegal (1779), the capture of Grenada (1779), the siege of Pensacola (1781), the invasion of Tobago (1781), the surrender of Lord Cornwallis (1781), the recapture of Saint Eustatius (26 November 1781), the sieges of Fort Saint-Philip (Minorca, 1782) and of Brimstone Hill (French Antilles, 1782) and finally the Treaties of Versailles (3 September 1783).
