Contemporary binding : mottled calf, boards with a double gilt fillet, gilt decorated ribbed spine (partly rubbed, lower edges dulled).

FIRST EDITION of this guide to Modern Rome divided per days (6 in total) and per rioni, pending version of the guide to Ancient Rome published in 1627 and often reprinted.

Work nicely illustrated with 1 title-page (with the coat-of arms of the dedicatee, the cardinal Antonio Barberini) and with 147 figures : 89 copper-engravings in the text and 1 full-page figuring views, monuments but also paintings ans sculptures, and 57 woodcuts of medallions.

Totti (1591 ?-1639), born in Cerreto di Spoleto, worked in Rome from 1611-1612 with the booksellor Giovanni Martinelli before establishing his own bookshop in 1639. Printer's mark on the last leaf.
