All based on paintings made for marquis de Ferriol, French ambassador to the Porte, publ. in “recueil de cent estampes représentant differentes Nations du Levant, gravées sur les Tableaux peints d’après Nature en 1707 & 1708”, Paris: 1715. Those engr. are basic prototypes for Levantine costume plates. With a certificate issued in 1967 by the Paris expert Paul Prouté. Ref. Atabey 429-430.
