LXXX”, 1985, 2 vol., 20,5 x 31,5 cm and 26 x 19 cm, leather, slipcase (corners rubbed, some scratches). Good condition. Complete colour facsimile ed. of one of the most significant luxurious manuscripts of the early Gothic, created in Northern France around 1200 for Ingeborg of Denmark, wife of King Philip II of France (1180-1223). The first part contains a liturgical calendar with signs of the Zodiac as well as Christian symbols, followed by a Jesse Tree, 27 lvs of plates, the Psalms and Song of Solomon, hymns, creeds and prayers. the ingeborg Psalter marks the beginning of gothic illumination in France. it is splendidly illustrated with 12 gold heightened initials, 24 circular signs of the Zodiac, num. historiated initials in text and 27 miniature pages (mostly 2 scenes one above another) depicting 50 scenes from genesis, exodus & the gospels. the Psalter begins with a full-page illuminated letter “B” for Psalm 1, with samuel anointing david. The orig. ms. is housed in the Musée Condé, Chantilly, France. Limited ed., one of 500 numb. copies (n. 261).
