gilt ornamental borders and coat-of-arms on upper cover, sm. leather strip on the hidden drawer in “1st vol.”, opening for cables on backside of “2nd vol”. - Faux book, 18th c.?, folio size, paper on wood (some chips of paper missing on joint and lower border of upper “cover”, flat spine with title- label (rubbed), sliding front edge to open the box. - Faux book, 4-to size, calf on board (rubbed, bumped corners), gilt spine on 5 raised bands (rubbed on bands & joints), title on red etiq., 1st ff. of “Analyse des infiniments petits (...)”. A Paris, 1696. - Faux book, 18th c., 4-to size, mottled calf, gilt ornemental border and coat-of-arms on upper cover, gilt spines (dam. on joint, rubbed). 2 books joined hiding a cigar box. Faux books are used, often on a large scale, to create the library look. Hollow books hiding boxes can be slided in-between real books to hold and hide all sorts of things.
