Le recto représente une vue en noir et blanc de la gare de Kayes-Ville. Au verso, Leiris écrit ces mots amusants: «Bien affectueusement à toi, de cette gare de banlieue».
Quand il envoie cette carte, Leiris fait partie de la Mission Dakar Djibouti, organisée par Marcel Griaule. Il tira de ce long voyage la matière de son ouvrage L'Afrique fantôme. Leiris écrivit plusieurs textes sur l'artiste suisse, dont Pierres pour un Alberto Giacometti. Le sculpteur dessina lui plusieurs portraits de l'écrivain Leiris.

Autograph postcard signed and addressed to Alberto Giacometti from French Sudan [now Mali].
The recto represents a black and white view of the Kayes-Ville station. On the back, Leiris writes these amusing words: "Affectionately yours, from this suburban railway station".
When he sends this card, Leiris is part of the Dakar Djibouti Mission, organized by Marcel Griaule. From this long journey he drew the material for his book L'Afrique fantôme. Leiris wrote several texts about the Swiss artist, including Pierres pour un Alberto Giacometti. The sculptor drew several portraits of the writer Leiris.
