Lettre d'empathie signée «Alexis Léger [véritable nom de Saint-John Perse]» adressée à Dominique Aury à la mort de son compagnon Jean PAULHAN. «[...] C'est en vous désormais que s'éclaire la présence de celui qui vous fut, un si long temps compagnon d'esprit et de coeur que vous avez un si long temps assisté dans les épreuves de sa vie d'homme, et que vous aurez, jusqu'à la dernière heure aidé à se survivre...» «Tenez donc pour votre premier devoir la reprise et la défense de vos forces physiques, et faites confiance, chère amie, à la fidélité des amitiés personnelles qui continuent de vous entourer». Dominique Aury est l'auteure du célèbre roman paru sous pseudonyme Histoire d'O et qui fut d'abord attribué à Paulhan qui préfaça l'ouvrage. Signed autograph letter addressed to Dominique AURY Presqu'île de Giens, October 20, 1968, 2 pp. in-4 in brown ink on letterhead from Saint-John Perse bearing his address in the Giens peninsula. Letter of empathy signed "Alexis Léger [real name of Saint-John Perse]" addressed to Dominique Aury at the death of his companion Jean PAULHAN. "[...] It is in you henceforth that the presence of the one who was to you, so long a companion in spirit and in heart that you assisted him in the trials of his life as a man, and that you will have, until the last hour, helped him to survive..." "Therefore, take as your first duty the recovery and defence of your physical strength, and trust, dear friend, in the loyalty of the personal friendships which continue to surround you". Dominique Aury is the author of the famous novel published under the pseudonym Histoire d'O and which was first attributed to Paulhan who prefaced the work.
