Description
Conseiller predicateur & premier Aumonier de la Reyne-Mere de sa Majesté. Jouxte la copie imprimée à Anvers, 1637 2 volumes in-8, [8 ff. n. ch. (titre, dédicace au Roi, au lecteur, table des pièces)] - 496 pp. et 422 pp. - 8 pp. Plein vélin souple, dos long titré avec tomaison à l'encre, 2 lacets partiellement conservées (reliure d'époque).
Ensemble des libelles écrits par Mathieu de Morgues de 1631 à 1637 contre le Cardinal de Richelieu. D'abord au service du ministre, mais n'ayant pu obtenir l'évêché de Toulon, il devint à partir de 1626 le principal pamphlétaire parmi les adversaires de sa politique. Mathieu de Morgues était plus connu de ses contemporains comme sieur ou abbé de Saint-Germain, prédicateur de Marie de Médicis à partir de 1620.
Il fut aussi le polémiste attitré de la reine mère avec un véritable talent pour la satire violente.
Sa connaissance de l'intimité de Richelieu rend ses pièces très intéressantes pour l'historien.

Germain, Counsellor & ordinary preacher of the Very Christian King & Counsellor preacher & first Chaplain of the Reyne-Mere of his Majesty. (title, dedication to the King, to the reader, table of parts)] - 496 pp. and 422 pp. - 8 pp. Full soft vellum, long spine titled with ink tomaison, 2 laces partially preserved (period binding).
Set of libels written by Mathieu de Morgues from 1631 to 1637 against Cardinal de Richelieu. Initially in the service of the minister, but having been unable to obtain the bishopric of Toulon, from 1626 he became the main pamphleteer among the opponents of his politics. Mathieu de Morgues was better known to his contemporaries as sieur or abbot of Saint-Germain, preacher of Marie de Médicis from 1620, and
was also the Queen Mother's regular polemicist with a real talent for violent satire.
His knowledge of Richelieu's intimacy makes his plays very interesting for the historian.
