chez Michel Brunet, 1702 2 volumes in-12, premier tome [2 ff.] - [4 pp.] - 498 pp. (incomplet manque les pp. 279-280) - [2 ff. dont le ff. de privilège]; second tome [2 ff. dont 1 bl.] - 533 pp. - [2 ff. bl.]. Plein veau brun, dos à nerfs orné, tomaison, pièce de titre dorée en maroquin bordeaux, roulette dorée sur les coupes (reliure d'époque). Note manuscrite à l'encre, certainement de la main de Thomas-Simon Gueulette, sur le feuillet liminaire en début de volume: «Ces memoires attribuées a cmt de St Evremond, ne sont point de luy, mais de Mr Labbé de Villiers, si connu pour son art de prescher, et pour plusieurs autres ouvrages qu'il a donné au public. Voyes la vie de Mr de St Evremont page 216». PROVENANCE Thomas-Simon Gueullette (1683-1766), magistrat, dramaturge et bibliophile français (ex-libris contrecollés sur gardes de chaque volume). (Reliure en état d'usage: plats frottés avec épidermures, dos abîmé, trou de vers dans pièce de titre, coins abîmés; pp. 265 à 278 du premier tome détachées, reliées partiellement par un clou dès le XVIIIe siècle, pp. 281-282 à moitiés déchirées). Full brown calf, decorated spine with nerves, tomaison, gilt title piece in burgundy morocco, gilt roulette on the cups (period binding). Handwritten note in ink, certainly by Thomas-Simon Gueulette, on the introductory page at the beginning of the volume: "These memoirs, attributed to cmt de St Evremond, are not from him, but from Mr Labbé de Villiers, so well known for his art of preaching, and for several other works that he gave to the public. See the life of Mr de St Evremont on page 216". PROVENANCE Thomas-Simon Gueullette (1683-1766), French magistrate, playwright and bibliophile (ex-libris laminated on guards of each volume). (Binding in good condition: rubbed plates with epiderminations, spine damaged, wormhole in title piece, corners damaged; pp. 265-278 of the first volume detached, partially bound by a nail from the 18th century, pp. 281-282 with torn halves).
