Lettre du citoyen Sade qui veut vendre sa terre de Mazan pour acheter une maison à Paris.
Quinquin l'a mis dans une mortelle inquiétude au sujet de son notaire Gaufridy, dont il venait de recevoir une lettre, dans laquelle «il avait placé les 2620 livres que je lui demandois ainsi qu'à vous; il me témoigne quelqu'inquiétude pour son fils, lequel est absent, mais lui, ne parait en avoir aucune, il est à la campagne, et va, me mandetil, retourner tranquilement chez lui ; si vous avés quelques nouvelles plus fraiches, mandés les moi je vous conjure, et ne me donnés pas à l'avenir de pareils coups de foudre quand vous ne serés pas sur de votre fait. Il me semble que l'émigration de Ripert et la saisie de ses biens n'empeche pas que je ne doive retirer du mien ce qui m'appartient très certainement. Il m'est du de cette partie, et vous m'obligerés sensiblement d'en raisoner un peu avec Gauffridi qui compte beaucoup sur cet objet pour me compter mon quartier prochain. Engagés le de même à finir les comptes de Lions qui, me mande-ton, a de l'argent à moi, et ne veut pas s'en desaisir sans qu'on ait apuré ses comptes. Votre idée sur la campagne Gauffridi est fort bonne, il faut tenir toujours les acquéreurs en haleine, et garder cela pour completer la somme si nous sommes assés malheureux pour n'en pouvoir venir à bout sans cela. Travaillés toujours, je vous en conjure. L'offre qu'on fait de la maison de Mazan, la plus belle de la ville sans doute, est complètement ridicule. Mon intention étant d'y joindre le jardin, je me flatte qu'on doit en offrir beaucoup davantage. Ce qu'il y a de bien sur, c'est que je ne le laisserai surement pas à ce prix là. Si je trouvais un bon prix de toute la terre de Mazan, assurément, je le vendrois volontiers, pour acheter ici, où je puis faire une excellente acquisition. Sachés me dire ce qu'on m'offre de la totalité de la terre de Mazan (...).
Il recommande ses intérêts auprès de sa tante [Henriette-Victoire de Martignan, marquise de Villeneuve], qui pourrait lui prêter la somme de quarante mille francs dont j'ai besoin. Si elle me la prêtoit à vie, je lui en fairois une bonne rente et à vous un joli pot de vin, mon cher citoyen si vous faisiés reussir cette affaire (...)».

Letter from citizen Sade who wants to sell his land in Mazan to buy a house in Paris.
