Description
Fine manuscript in black ink of a part of d'Indy's "Fervaal", opus 40. D'Indy (1851-1931), French composer and teacher, wrote this Celtic opera in 3 acts between 1889 and 1895. He wrote his own libretto, partly based on the lyric poem "Axel" by the Swedish author Esaias Tegnér. As part of the post-Wagnerian movement d'Indy tried to find a way in using local folklore to celebrate nationalism. By creating this monumental work d'Indy delivered one of the very first works which transposed the Wagnerian material into a French style. We join : Id. - "L'art et le Peuple (Victor Hugo)". Autogr. signed music manuscript, s.d., 13 pp. on 8 ff., folio, loose. Very neat manuscript in black ink. Orchestral score (1918) of d'Indy's composition for four male voices after a poem of V. Hugo.
