He wrote many songs, both for solo voice and for duet with piano, mainly simple or slightly modified strophic settings. This collection includes songs for solo with piano. We join : Id. - Scherzo, from a Midsummer Night's Dream, for the piano forte. London, Metzler & C., s.d., folio, sewn, spine in cloth, 11 pp. (title somewhat soiled). Purely instrumental movement of Mendelssohn's well-known music composed for Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream". The Scherzo is part of the incidental music which Mendelssohn wrote in 1842 for a production of the play. It has a sprightly score and acts as an intermezzo between acts I and II. It leads directly into the first melodrama, a passage of text spoken over music. Ownership entry on title. (2 vol.)
