Description
2nd ed. (1st 1792) of a trsl. of Idrisi’s geographical treatise on Arabian geography as it related to Africa. Muhammad al Idrisi (c.1099-1154), a Muslim geographer and cartographer, was employed by  King Roger II of Sicily who commissioned Idrisi to compile a description of the “known world” which became known as the “Rogerian Treatise”. J. M. Hartmann (1764-1817) from the University of Marburg translated this work from a mediaeval ms. in original Arabic at the University of Jena. He also included notes by other Moslem writers on Africa, making this a compendium of known mediaeval Arabic writings on the geography of Africa. Ref. BL. BnF. Not in VD-18.
