Description
(rubbed), sp. edges, [2]-viii-246 + [6]-282 pp. Very good copy.
Very rare German abridgement of the “Elements of Algebra”, publ. 1765, by the Swiss mathematician Euler (1707-1783). It is one of the 1st books to set out algebra in the modern form. “It opens with a discussion of the nature of numbers and the signs + and - , before systematically developing algebra to a point at which polynomial equations of the fourth degree can be solved, first by an exact formula and then approximately.” (Wikipedia). Engr. ill. on title. Ref. Not in VD-18, Sauvenier-Goffin, BL, BnF. We join : Cauchy, A. L. - Lehrbuch der algebraischen Analysis [trsl. from the French C.L.B. Huzler]. Königsberg, Bornträger (printed Leipzig, Brockhaus), 1828, 8vo, cont. sp. boards (rubbed), xvi-416-[2] pp. (paper age-toned and spotted). Rare German trsl. of “Analyse algébrique” by the French mathematician Cauchy (1789-1857). Ref. Not in Sauvenier-Goffin, BL, BnF. (2 vol.)
