Magnus,4to, cont. vellum (a recasing, stained), flat spine, new endpapers, [16]-408-[24] pp. (traces of use, somewhat stained and thumbed, 1st ff. partly remargined, lower part of f. X4 cut off with loss of text and ill.). In all an acceptable copy. 
Dutch trsl. (from the 3rd French ed. of 1681) of "Traité des maladies des femmes grosses" by Fr. Mauriceau (1637-1709), the book which "established obstetrics as a science" (G&M). Engr. ills : front. with portrait and 32 pl. "This was the outstanding textbook of the time, the first important textbook of obstetrics for nearly 60 years (since that of Jacques Guillemeau in 1609), and the first important obstetrical text to be published in five vernacular languages as well as Latin. The work also included several important new features, such as Mauriceau’s detailed analysis of the mechanism of labor, his introduction of the practice of delivering women in bed rather than in the obstetric chair (...)"
