French trsl. by the diplomat and cryptographer Blaise de Vigenère (1523-1596) of the main work of Onosander (1st c.). It is a treatise on the duties of a general, and one of the rare surviving military texts from Greek Antiquity. Engr. title, engr. arms of Maximilian de Bethune, woodcut diagrams in text.
