First edition of the annotations on variants in numerous texts from the Bible by François Lucas (1548/1549-1619), Flemish priest and dean of Saint-Omer. Intended to be part of the Plantin's Latin Bible of 1574, "Lucas found it impossible to condense into the marginal notes the reasons why such and such version prevailed [...]. In 1574 only the "Variae lectiones Novi Testamenti" were finished, too late to be inserted into the Bible-edition" (# Voet). The annotations were reprinted with the inf edition of the Bible in 1583.
