Description
1. Part of a newssheet on paper, c. 27,5 x 35 cm, [17th c.?]. Public execution scene: scaffold with a chained man sitting on a chair, to be executed by the sword, around the scaffold judges, soldiers and musicians playing, the public is standing or sitting in boxes. On a gate wall a coat-of-arms (double-headed eagle). Figures indicated with letters, but the legend is missing (cut off?). 2. Engraving, c. 22 x 27,5 cm. Branding of a female thief with the letter V(oleuse) in Paris, 13 March 1779. 3. “Zaterdag 24 december 1853, onthoofding”. Broadside, c. 30 x 19cm, [Ghent 1854] (age-toned, some tears in edges strengthened with sellotape). Good copy. Extr. rare with on one side a full-page woodcut of the execution, and on the other side a Dutch account of the trial and a "Treur gezang" (song on the murder committed).
