Description
Nice sepia toned head-and-shoulder portrait of the German pianist, composer and conductor B. Stavenhagen (1862-1914). In 1885 Stavenhagen became a pupil of Fr. Liszt who influenced his musical style. Dedication (ink) to Victor Lynen (1834-1894), wealthy Antwerp business man with a broad intellectual knowledge. Among others Liszt belonged to Lynens circle of close friends. Liszt stayed several times in his house during the early 1880s. It was an occasion to organise house concerts and city visits. With blindstamp "1887" in right lower corner.
