Description
Long view of the city of Prague by Karel Škréta Šotonovský ze Závořic, (1610-1674), Csech Baroque painter. Seen from inland with the Vltava in the distance and the hill of the Castle. Siege by the Swedish army of 1648 in progress with earthworks and cannon; in the upper corners oval portraits of the two defending generals. Lettered on curtain at top with title followed by a description of the siege which began on 5 October and was lifted on 2 November; within the image "Carlo Screta delin. / M. Merian excudit".
